Hours after a fire tore through kiosks and homes at Avenor in Accra on Thursday, 1st October 2026, an old video of Prophet Roja began spreading quickly on social media. In the video, the preacher said he had seen powerful demons rising from the sea and claimed they would be linked to a series of fire outbreaks and road accidents from 1st October 2026.
@eskimostudios01 Drivers must be extra careful coming 1st October to December 2026, Families must be careful fire in their homes— Prophet Roja #fyp #prophetroja #roadsafety #creatorsearchinsights #ghanaevents ♬ original sound - ESKIMO STUDIOS
For some viewers, the timing was too striking to ignore. Others say it is only a coincidence, and that it is a painful one to dwell on while families at Avenor are still counting their losses.
What the prophecy said
In an Interview with Angel FM believed to have been before 1st of October, 2025, Prophet Roja prophesied that he had seen that there will be a lot of misfortunes in the coming month and specifically Mentioned October 1st as a start of a dangerous year. He also urged people to be prayerful. He also targeted Drivers too by cautioning them to be careful.
What has people talking even more is what he said next. Prophet Roja urged Ghanaians to carry out frequent routine checks on their electrical systems and to keep fire extinguishers ready in case of a fire outbreak.
Some unfazed netizens have called it a mere coincidence, while others say they are shocked by it.
The fire at Avenor
The fire broke out at about 7:30 a.m. in Kofikrom, behind the railway line near Avenor junction. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it started in a wooden structure behind the ECG office before spreading to the Duraplast company, where stored chemicals made it more intense. Eight fire tenders were deployed, and the Service later said the fire had been contained. Duraplast's Marketing Manager, Emmanuel Donkor, said the company had lost its entire stock of pipes.
Citi News reports that two people are feared dead, but the GNFS said it could not confirm any casualties at the time. What caused the fire has not yet been established.
What we saw at the scene
When Filla Dey got to the scene at 10 a.m, it was chaotic. Firefighters were doing their best to contain a fire that was burning out of control. The fire was so intense that some police officers collapsed while trying to rescue people still inside houses that had not yet caught fire.
One resident we interviewed, told us the fire started right after a woman ran out of her house shouting for help. According to him, her gas had exploded, and she was asking people to help put out the fire and rescue her children, who were still inside. Early efforts by residents and the GNFS to put out the blaze proved futile, he said, because the packed settlement of mostly wooden houses and kiosks allowed the fire to spread quickly.
When the fire got out of control, he and several others went from house to house, banging on the doors of every home that had not yet burnt, so that no one would be trapped inside.
Even so, the resident claimed that some people died in the fire. Filla Dey could not independently verify his account of how the fire started or his claim that people died. As of 3pm, the Ghana National Fire Service had not released a death toll.
Filla Dey will keep you updated on any new developments in this unfortunate disaster.
