You no longer have to delete and re-upload your WhatsApp Status just because of a typo. WhatsApp has
started rolling out a caption-editing tool for Status updates, letting users tweak the text on a photo or
video Status within 15 minutes of posting it - no need to lose your views or start over.

What Exactly Changed
Previously, if you posted a photo or video Status and spotted a wrong price, a misspelled name, or a dead
link in the caption, your only option was to delete the whole thing and repost - losing your view count and
any replies in the process. That's now changing. WABetaInfo, the tracker that first spots WhatsApp features
hiding in beta code, flagged the tool inside an Android beta build back in early June. By mid-to-late July,
outlets including Pulse Ghana and several tech blogs report the feature is now live for at least some
users.
As of July 20, 2026, WhatsApp/Meta has not put out an official global announcement confirming a full
rollout. What's confirmed is that it started as a beta-only find in June, and reports from the past few days
describe it as rolling out - which for WhatsApp usually means a gradual release, not an instant switch for

How It Actually Works
Post your Status as usual - photo, video, or GIF with a caption. Open your live Status, and you should see
a small pen icon next to the caption. Tap it, fix your text, hit save, and it updates instantly for anyone
who views it after. The catch: you only get 15 minutes from the moment you post, matching the same
window WhatsApp already uses for editing regular chat messages. And it only touches the text - if you
uploaded the wrong photo or video entirely, you're still deleting and starting over.
This isn't just a "nice to have." Status has quietly become a shopfront for a huge number of small vendors,
hairstylists, phone dealers, and side-hustlers across Ghana - MoMo numbers, prices, and "available now"
posts go up multiple times a day. One wrong digit on a MoMo number or a mixed-up price used to mean deleting
a post that already had traction, and starting from zero views. A 15-minute fix window won't save you if the
mistake is spotted an hour later, but it closes the gap for the most common slip-up: posting fast, then
immediately spotting the error.
